1761 - Violent hurricane strikes New England. Tremendous damage in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. 1843 - Indian summer gave way to sleigh weather from Pennsylvania to Vermont. Albany NY picked up 4 inches of snow, 6 inches fell at Burlington VT and 12 inches fell at Haverhill NH. Higher elevations picked up even more. 1947 - Fish fell from the sky in Marksville, Louisiana. Thousands of fish fell from the sky in an area 1,000 feet long by 80 feet wide. 1987 - Montgomery AL recorded its ninth record low of the month as unseasonable chill continued to grip the Southeast. 1989 - Pacific storm brought heavy rains to northern California and heavy snows to the area around Lake Tahoe. 21 inches fell at Donner Summit with 3 feet of snow in the mountains near Lake Tahoe.
