1917 - -33F at Soda Butte Wyoming is an October record for the lower 48 states. 1942 - Berryville AR struck by tornado that killed 29 people and injured over 200. 137 buildings were destroyed. 1956 - Family of tornadoes cut a 100 mile path across Nebraska. What made this outbreak so unusual was the fact that it was so far to the northwest for so late in the year. 1959 - 800 villagers in the tiny town of Minatitlan Mexico are buried by a massive mudslide. Many others died from snakebites and scorpions that were unearthed the slide. 1965 - Southern California Heat Waves comes to an end. Los Angeles had suffered through 90 degrees readings each day during the Heat Wave and horrible smog. 1991 - Bismarck ND sets its October snowfall record on this date as 15.9 inches of snow falls on the 28th and 29th, bringing the total for the month to 23.5 inches.
