Valley Grove, WV -- Valley Grove is a small town.
As one might expect, it's fire department is volunteer.
It's responsibilities are greater than you might think, and now the deparment has a brand-new fire hall to help meet its obligations.
This new fire department has been a long time coming for Valley Grove.
The chief said their first obligation is to the people in and around Valley Grove.
But, they also answer calls from Pennsylvania, work the West Alexander Fair and are the first responders to The Highlands.
"It's absolutely wonderful. They did a great job with the size of the bays and all this office space is great. They'll be happy with what they've got here and I think the community will be happy with what they've got here," said Ohio County Resident Erica Edge.
"The trucks in 1952 were a lot smaller than now. There's extra equipment we didn't have to carry in 1952. We just outgrew it totally," President Scott Himrod said.
It had been such a tight fit, they even had to fold the side mirrors in before they could make it out to respond to a call.
There are no such hassles now.
Like many volunteer departments, they need members now.
The chief hopes the new fire hall will draw more members.
That new station cost $900,000.
And like a lot of us who get a new place, they have a 30-year mortgage to service.
