Local "Extras" Are Wanted For Casting Call

BELLAIRE, Ohio -- An action adventure called "Unstoppable" starring Denzel Washington will be shooting scenes in Bellaire.

Scenes will reportedly be shot at the pipe yard off Hamilton Street and on top of the Shepard Apartment building on 32nd Street.

20th Century Fox may build the set of an oil rig, and may use the railroad tracks in Bellaire as a backdrop.

The scenes on top of the Shepard Apartment Building will require a crane called a man lift.

It's an action film involving a runaway train carrying toxic chemicals.

An engineer and conductor are in another train chasing the toxic train, to prevent it from derailing.

Officials say there will be casting calls in the Ohio Valley in August, and they are looking for local people to be "extras" in the movie.

Ohio Valley residents shared their reactions to the upcoming visit from Hollywood.

"I think it's going to be nice," said Luella Ticarich of Bellaire. "I think it's going to give us a lot of publicity. And maybe we'll have some people go back to work."

"I think it's great," said Charlene Springer of Belmont, Ohio. "We could certainly use it around here for something positive for a change with everything going down, with all the steel mills and everything losing. It would certainly brighten people's spirits, I would think."

Barbara Poe of Shadyside agrees.

"Well I think it's nice that Bellaire's geting known for some of its historical places and it's wonderful that people from outside the area are coming in to give them this recognition," Poe said.

"I think it's going to be really good for the economy," said Stephanie Poe of Shadyside. "I'm really excited. I really like Denzel Washington as an actor so I think it'll be pretty cool."

"Bellaire needs something," said Geoffrey Violet of Bellaire. "The whole valley's pretty much dead. We need some kind of income here. It would be kind of exciting for the valley. The valley needs something."

I think it's a great opportunity for Bellaire. It need all the help it can get.

I just wonder if Denzel knows the history of Dr. Shepherd (who I heard was very active in the local KKK movement of the 50s/60s in Bellaire).
