NTSB news conference reveals more information on Sunday's plane crash in Wayne County.

HUNTINGTON -- Update Monday at 4 p.m.

A news conference Monday afternoon revealed some more details into Sunday's plane crash near Buffalo Creek in Wayne County.

Jose Obregon, a federal investigation for the National Transportation Safety board confirmed there were two people killed on board, however did not officially release names.

However family members have confirmed the victims were Michael Land and his son Drew Land. They are the brother-in-law and nephew of Former Barboursville Police Chief Alan Meek.

Obregon told 13News the plane was a Cessna 400. He says the wreckage was "severely fragmented" and scattered in a 100 by 200 foot area.

According to Obregon , the radio tower lost communication with the pilot just 30 seconds after taking off from Tri-State Airport around 1 p.m. Sunday.

"There was no May Day call or any distress signal," he said.

Obregon told WOWKTV.com a preliminary report will be issue within seven to 10 days after the crash. As for the final report, he said that could take from 6 months to a year. He is asking for the public to be patient while the investigation continues.

"We are only about 27-28 hours into the accident," he said. "We have to make sure we do this right. It will take a while."

Obregon praised local responders for their work following the crash Sunday.

"Thank you very much," he said. "Local law enforcement and several special units really helped in this accident. Without their help, my job would be very difficult."

The preliminary report should be released by July 14. That report will be posted on the NTSB website, www.ntsb.gov.

Mike Land played trombone in my band, and his son, Drew, sometimes played trumpet with us. They were fantastic individuals. What an incredible tragedy this is.
