SARDIS, OH -- A Pennsylvania man was killed and two others injured in a State Route 7 crash that happened just before noon near Sardis on Thursday.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol a 2000 Ford Excursion moved to the left lane in an attempt to pass a 2006 GMC Savanna. The Excursion then struck the left the rear corner of the Savanna, lost control and rolled multiple times, before coming to rest off the east edge of SR7.

The driver and front seat passenger of the Excursion were both ejected during the crash. The driver, Jeffrey Ray Sherman, 43, of Middlebury Center, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger, Kenneth W. Treadway, 43, of Gibraltar, Michigan, was flown to the Ohio Valley Medical Center and then to Ruby Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. The rear passenger, Anthony E. Littke, 40, of Detroit, Michigan, was taken by ground to Wetzel County Hospital with serious injuries.

Ricky W. Booth, 48, of Marietta, Ohio, was the driver of the Savanna. He was treated for minor injuries.

Nobody in the Excursion was wearing a seatbelt, police said, and alcohol is believed to be a factor.

As a friend and former co-worker of these three, my thoughts and prayers, and those of my family, go out to all of those affected by this tragedy.

No i live near the scene. From the time the 911 dispatcher paged the Sardis Squad out it took them 10 mins. It took the fire dept 8 minutes to get there. They did the very best they could to save EVERYONE. but when you are thrown out of a car it usally means bad news. My prayers go out to all the families invold. And my sympathy to the family of the man who lost his life.and may god watch over the other people and thier famlies who was invold.

It took the EMS a while to get there, but that happens when it's a volunteer squad, during the day, when most people are working. Another reason why we need paid departments, like it or not. Not only alcohol is believed to be a factor, but very excessive speed.

Rumor has it that it took an ambulance around 20 minutes to get there.

One died on scene, one was lifeflighted, and the third had lacerations. Not sure of any serious injury on #3. I just said a couple weeks ago that people think they can fly, and eventually they find out different. Terrible. My prayers are with the families. Rt 7 is not a speedway.
