Powhatan Point, Ohio -- In Belmont County, a teenage rape victim, attacked while sleeping in her own home, fights back against the intruder.
Now the man who was according to authorities raping her at knifepoint is hospitalized after the girl turned the knife on him.
It all started at 1:30 a.m.in a home just outside Powhatan Point.
44-year-old Victor Stevens of Powhatan--already a registered sex offender--is in police custody and in the hospital.
Belmont County Sheriff Fred Thompson says Stevens allegedly broke into a home, wakened a 16-year-old girl who was asleep in her bedroom, and forced her to disrobe at knifepoint.
The he reportedly began raping her.
But at one point, he reportedly put down the knife and the girl seized her opportunity.
"He laid down the knife and the victim was able to grab it," said Sheriff Thompson. "She actually stabbed the suspect in the chest. The mother, who was sleeping in another part of the house, heard the commotion and came in to her daughter's bedroom and actually saw the man on top of her daughter. At this point, he picked up the knife and took off out the door."
The man was bleeding profusely.
The sheriff's department, Powhatan Police and Bellaire Police with their K-9 were all on the case.
The K-9 tracked him to his home.
Officers broke in the door and reportedly found Victor Stevens hiding between his mattress and box springs.
They say he resisted arrest, but was taken into custody.
He's now in fair condition in Ohio Valley Medical Center, under round-the-clock guard.
