ST. CLAIRSVILLE, OHIO -- The charge against Bruce Callarick, one of the men charged in the Sarah Jessica Parker surrogate scandal, has been dropped, and the case was dismissed by the judge.
Prosecutor Shawn Hervey said that justice is better served by a dismissal in this case.
Callarick's attorney, Charles Bean, wanted to clarify that this agreement does not mean his client will testify for or against anyone, but Callarick has agreed to stay in the jurisdiction and give truthful testimony is subpoenaed in court.
Callarick, Bridgeport Police Chief Chad Dojack and Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter are accused of being involved in the break-in of the surrogate’s Martins Ferry home to obtain information and pictures for a tabloid news reporter.
Callarick was originally charged with complicity to receive stolen property, but that charge is now dismissed.
