BRIDGEPORT -- Bridgeport Resident Jean Watson told 7 News that she has received word that her son Ryan Leach, 26, is safe on the base at Fort Hood, Texas.

Watson said she waited frantically to hear that her son was not among 13 killed or 30 injured after a gunman opened fire on the base Thursday afternoon. Leach posted on Facebook that he was safe and well.

Watson said she tried calling her son's cell phone numerous times, but she says it kept going to voicemail.

Watson concluded by saying, " I just prayed a lot until I could get ahold of him."
