Steadman Short says Huntington is the place for him.

HUNTINGTON -- COURTESY: MARSHALL SPORTS INFORMATION

Marshall University head men's basketball coach Donnie Jones announced Wednesday the signing of a National Letter of Intent by Chipola College forward Steadman Short. Short is the first player to become a part of the 2010 Thundering Herd recruiting class.

"Steadman is very versatile with his size and skill and will give us the ability to play him on the perimeter,” Jones said. β€œHe reminds me, with his tenacity and athleticism, of former Gator Corey Brewer. Steadman loves to play and he has a great work ethic. West Virginia, Oklahoma, Indiana, were some of the other schools that were recruiting him. We are excited to coach Steadman, as he is great fit for our system.”

A 6-foot, 9-inch, 215-pound native of Simpsonville, S.C., Short graduated from Hillcrest High School in 2008 where he earned Class 4A All-State honors. As a junior, he was named Region Player of the Year. Short signed with High Point University where he played as a freshman. Short was second on the Panthers in rebounding (5.6), blocks (24), and fourth on the squad in scoring with (6.9). Short started 23-of-28 games for High Point, shooting nearly 50 percent (79-157, 49.7) from the field.

Short elected to transfer to Chipola upon the conclusion of his freshman campaign after High Point changed coaches. Located in Marianna, Fla., Chipola was named the Junior College of the Decade by the Basketball Times in the Spring of 2009 after winning 81.8 percent of its games (276-63) and earning five NCAA top-seven national tournament finishes. The 2008-09 edition of the Indians featured nine NCAA Division I recruits on the roster.
