More on layoffs.
Ninety workers at Ohio American Energy in Brilliant found out they’re without jobs Friday.

BRILLIANT, Ohio -- Ohio American Energy President and CEO Bob Murray is blaming the 90 layoffs at the company's mine in Brilliant, Ohio, directly on President Barack Obama and the Democratic administration.

Murray further said that the Democrats, including local U.S. Reps. Zack Space and Charlie Wilson, both D-Ohio, have done nothing to help the coal industry.

Murray claimed that coal consumption is down and that’s just one of the reasons for the layoffs.

He also said 75 workers will retain their jobs.

Many of the miners said that the news is devastating as it comes just weeks before the holidays.

Well, regardless of what adminstration is in charge, if electricity demand is down for the plants the company supplies/has contracts with, then ultimately the power company needs less supply.. Thus resulting in less miners. The aforementioned company, Valley Resident, might have demand capacity elsewhere. New contracts. Might be shipping internationally. There could be a whole host of reasons. If only it was as simple as you lead on. Also, I guess if he didn't care about his workers, then why did he personally meet with them or be onsite to deliver the news. Just like any other company, he could have had the HR or some manager break the bad news.

WHAT A SMOKE SCREEN! Once again this Company plays the media like a flute! I wish they would comment on why Valley Mining Co. has stepped up their work at that operation! Hmmm??? Maybe because he cut the throats of his own loyal workers & replaced them with a lower bidder!!! It was said in the past that they move the dirt cheaper! Also, I suppose I catch a cold or my toilet won't flush properly it's Obama & the Democrats fault!!!!! By the way why is Consol Energy hiring so many men & their business is flourishing? Why is Alliance Resources opening a mine very soon in Ohio County???

If coal consumption is down it cannot possibly be due to an administration which has only been in office for less than 1 year. There has not been enough time during this administration for plants to have converted from coal. Any jobs lost have more to do with how much profit your lay off will put in the pocket of Mr. Murray. I have been writing to my Congressman and senators and yes even the president to utilize clean coal technology as I am certain many Democrats have also been doing. Get your head out of your butts and put the blame where it belongs - Mr. Murray has never been a friend to the miner for his family. If he cared about miners he would be wholeheartedly behind clean coal technology and its future in this valley instead of blaming the men who are trying to keep coal into our lives as a clean energy resource.

first of, anyone that goe's by "me" is oviosly a coward and has no sound respect for themselves, but i will lower my playing field to shorly expalin two things to you. 1. war is an ungodly, horrible action, that myself and many, many good americans have had to endure to ALLOW, yes allow someoen as ignorant on said subjects to display there views. if we hadnt took this battle to the muslim warmongers, it would be here, maybe on your street. YOU SHOULD THANK GOD DAILY for those who make it possible for you to be you in a free society. 2. socialism had never worked anywhere in the world and maintained the rights and libertys you now have. do you like chains?? well if this adminstration, that speaks for a vast minorty gets it way, you'll be fitted with aome nice ones. and you'll do what your told... and you'll watch what your told.... is this getting through to you on any level?

Obviously you are a republican that dose not want to take credit for the 8 years of Bush that started this recession and put the blame elsewhere. It will take a couple more years to fix what Bush destroyed, and nothing will bring back the innocent lives taken from his war.

Space and Wilson are useless. They do not listen to their constituents. Their sole purpose is to please Obama and Pelosi. I wonder if Wilson and Space paid any attention to the recent survey on WTOV in regards to if you are happy with the way your representative voted on Pelosi's health care bill. 85% were not satisfied. I have given up on Wilson. His major claim to fame for the area is his vote against cap and trade. I'll bet he is really investing a major amount of time lobbying the senators to vote against it. 2010 and 2012 can't get here soon enough!
