ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio -- In the second day of deliberations in the case against Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter, a jury returned a verdict on Monday.
Carpenter was found guilty of receiving stolen property, theft in office and tampering with evidence. He was found not guilty of burglary in the second and third degrees.
Jurors deliberated for five and a half hours on Friday before Judge John Solovan recessed for the weekend.
The jury began deliberations again at 9 a.m. Monday and broke for lunch at noon. It appeared that the jury spent some of the morning reviewing video and audio tapes made by Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents.
Those tapes reveal Carpenter being questioned about his involvement with paparazzi photographers who claim Carpenter tried to sell them personal belongings of Michelle Ross. Ross is the surrogate who gave birth to actress Sarah Jessica Parker's twin daughters.
