The Board of Education has to come up with a list of teachers who will stay per a new rule in Charleston by February.
WHEELING -- Some teachers in Ohio County may be getting bad news just in time for the holidays.
School officials may be forced to tell some teachers that they are no longer needed or will be transferred come 2010.
The State of West Virginia passed a rule that every school system in the state has to determine a staff size by Feb. 1, and the county has to establish a reduction in force and transfers or Reduction in Force, or RIF, list.
The state is making the Ohio County Board of Education come up with next years numbers now, but many on the board said they believe this is unfair.
“Next week, our personnel director and assistant superintendent will be telling people they're going to be transferred or may not have a job. It's unfair they're told in December you may not have a job come August,” said Sam Andy, Board of Education member.
Andy said the situation is a mess, and he hopes someone in Charleston will rethink the matter.
