WHEELING -- The sounds of birds chirping were drowned out by the sharp sound of a family's smoke detector and fire crews feverishly drowning the flames at the corner of North 16th Street.
Chief Larry Helms said a couple of people passing by stopped at the fire station and reported the fire.
"From what I understand the initial report is the family had just left the home. They had been doing some cooking for kids and possibly left something on on the stove' said Helms.
Fire officials say a family with twin toddler boys and a little girl lived at 130 North 16th Street.
Helms said firefighters did a good job knocking the fire down and stopping it from spreading further.
The home sustained severe heat, smoke and water damage.
The community is stepping in to help replace lost items.
A fund has been set up at all local WesBanco branches c/o "North Sixteenth Street Warwood Fire". As far as the children's sizes, the twin boys wear 4T and the little girl a size 5T.
